The 2024 Collection

Fourteen bottlings from the 2024 vintage, drawn from sites across the four corners of the valley. Budbreak came in the third week of April, and rain moved through flowering in early June, costing us fruit and giving back concentration. The summer sat close to the long-term average. October was dry and temperate, and with no reason to hurry we picked slowly, the acidity holding the whole way.

It is the most floral vintage we have made. Succulent floral aromas and exotic flavors, and beneath them the fine lacey texture of the house and a seasoning of reduction.

The Chardonnay went through the pressing regime that became Black Chardonnay. The Pinot Noir was hand-clipped and fermented in amphora.

Burgundy

The 2024 Collection

Seven bottlings from the 2024 vintage, grand and premier cru, from Gevrey-Chambertin down to the Montrachet hill. Rain ran through the spring and most of May, mildew pressed the vineyards all season, and flowering came long and uneven, which asked for constant work in the vines and an unsparing hand at the sorting table; August turned dry and sunny, and the picking took two clear weeks from mid-September. The wines are made at the Château de Bligny-lès-Beaune with the same restraint we practice in Oregon, which a season like this makes harder to navigate rather than easier. The Chardonnay went through the same pressing regime that became Black Chardonnay, and the Pinot Noir was fermented a third whole-cluster in stainless steel and aged in new Damy Rubis barrels. What came out reads its climats clearly, in the quantities the season allowed.
