The 00 VGW (Very Good White) showcases the best of the Willamette Valley in a Chardonnay blend.  Our “Black Chardonnay” production method results in a complex, savory Chardonnay, which has given 00 Wines an outstanding reputation for quality and attention to detail in the Willamette Valley after only two vintages of production.  This annual blend is the signature Chardonnay entry into the world of 00 Wines. The 2016 VGW is a blend of single vineyard fermentations of Von Oehsen and Open Claim vineyards.

Produced from a blend of single vineyard fermentations of Von Oehsen and Open Claim vineyards. Von Oehsen Vineyard: AVA: Eola-Amity Hills Elevation and Aspect: 430 ft. Southeast-facing slope Soil Type: Volcanic Jory, Witzel and Ritner  Clones: Dijon Total Planted Acres: 18.98 acres planted in 2011. Open Claim Vineyard: AVA: Willamette Valley Elevation and Aspect: 419 ft. South-facing slope Soil Type: Sedimentary Clones: Dijon Total Planted Acres: 20.98 acres planted in 2012.
Production Notes
Our Black Chardonnay production method is actually a series of steps that results in a savory, complex Chardonnay in the glass. First, we complete a pre-press crush with skin contact the night before pressing. Our extreme pressing program extracts maximum tannins from the Chardonnay grape skins. The juice in the pan is dark brown color - almost like a thick French press coffee brew with brimming with fine particulates and phenolics. After the pressing, we do not add sulfites to the pan. Instead we do not disturb the the dark, full-bodied juice, which is not settled or racked, and goes directly into barrel. The wine is cared for closely during indigenous yeast fermentation and élevage.
