Where Tradition Meets Innovation

Oregon is a place where pioneers explore the possibilities of the new world.

Shaped by the weathered remains of ancient volcanic eruptions and vanished seas, the Willamette Valley in western Oregon is a place where the magic of nature is an integral part of daily life.

Inspired by the majesty and potential of this extraordinary natural world, growers, winemakers, artists, designers, chefs, and great thinkers have migrated to Oregon to build new lives in service of a higher creative force.

The Willamette Valley AVA stretches from Portland in the north, to Eugene in the south, to the Coast Range mountains in the west, to the Cascade Mountains in the east. Divided into seven sub-appellations with unique terroirs, the Willamette Valley is a cool climate growing region punctuated by world-class vineyards worthy of grand cru status.

Domestic Chardonnay That Holds Its Own With Burgundy

"This past April, I was up in Oregon for the Willamette Valley Barrel Auction, and on the first evening, people at the hotel bar were talking about some hot new wines called 00 Wines. I was told that they were making some superb Chardonnays. Prior to the auction, there are a few days of tastings with producers from throughout the valley showcasing their wines, so I made sure I hit their tasting table the next day. It was easy to find since many of the others at the event had the same idea. I loved the wines and was really excited since over the past five years the wine world has seen a resurgence in Oregon Chardonnay!

Fast forward three months, owners Chris and Kathryn Hermann came by our store to taste the staff on the wines. My brother Jim’s reaction was priceless: ‘I have never had a domestic Chardonnay that reminded me so much of some of my favorite white burgundies, such as Roulot, Pierre Yvez Colin Morey and even Coche Dury! This could be my favorite domestic Chardonnay, hands down! Kudos to 00!’ (Jim Knight) Even our Italian buyer, Lance Montalto, was excited about these new releases!"

The roots of 00 Wines run deep in the heritage of the Willamette Valley wine industry.

A Legacy Winemaking House For Modern Drinkers And Collectors

Proprietor Chris Hermann, a lifelong resident Oregon, has specialized in environmental and alcohol beverage law on the west coast of the United States for over 30 years. His deep love of the Willamette Valley is inspired by the people who work the land to produce the most exceptional Pinot Noir and Chardonnay in the new world.

Together with his wife Kathryn, Chris is founding a legacy winemaking house that articulates the potential of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay in the glass. The Hermanns regularly welcome traveling winemakers, sommeliers, importers,  and chefs from around the world to experience the finer side of Willamette Valley food and wine.

Chris’s emphasis on Chardonnay springs partially from a conversation with legendary Burgundian winemaker Dominique Lafon, who declared Willamette Valley vineyards, such as Seven Springs in the Eola-Amity Hills, produce the best Chardonnay and Pinot Noir fruit in the New World.

“It’s right here in our backyard, and it’s up to us to take what nature has given us to make world-class, collectible wines.”

Featuring The Next Generation Of Willamette Valley Winemaking Talent

Wynne Peterson-Nedry oversees the Willamette Valley winemaking for 00 Wines. Wynne is a second generation winemaker. Her father Harry Peterson-Nedry’s wine career began in 1980 after purchasing land to establish Ridgecrest Vineyards, the first vineyard in what would become the Ribbon Ridge AVA, which he co-authored in 2001 (approved 2005).

Wynne's attention to detail, raw talent, and deep understanding of the Willamette Valley all contribute to her stellar reputation as a rising star in the industry.

00 Wines selects world-class vineyard sources tended by careful growers across multiple Willamette Valley AVAs.

Our only dogma is quality in our relentless quest to produce world-class Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.

Our practices lean toward biodynamic, but we are not certified. Our barrels are selected in consultation with our winemaking team after visiting our coopers in Burgundy. Some of our growers dry farm exclusively, but some don't. The only side we take is the side of quality, which 100% of the time comes from working with detail-oriented, dedicated suppliers.

We source from a variety of clones, elevations, rootstocks, sub-appellations, and soil types.

Our dedication to complexity starts with our fruit sourcing. Our winemaking program includes both California heritage clones and Dijon clones, grown in both volcanic and sedimentary soils. We source from both the oldest blocks in some of the Willamette Valley's most revered vineyards, as well as young vines from emerging high quality vineyards.

"This is a blend of parcels, fermented as hand-snipped, single berries in 500-liter amphorae. The intrinsically fragrant and gently tarry red cherries deliver a complex, youthful impression with assertively spicy oak. The palate has a wildly detailed, fresh and juicy array of rich, dark cherries and berries with such long and succulent, fine tannins. Really exceptional expression of Willamette pinot. Drink across the next decade."

"The 2016 VGW soars from the glass with aromas of white flowers, stone fruits, minerals, and salinity. On the palate there is amazing precision, depth, and focus with every detail of the wine in prefect proportion. Quite frankly we were blown away of how good this wine is and it put many a new world and old word Chardonnay to shame. Drinkable now, but it should age for up to a decade if you can keep your hands off. A tour de force Chardonnay!" - Greg Koslosky, Envoyer Fine Wines
