tucked in the back of a tiny winery in the Eola-Amity Hills of the Willamette Valley, Oregon. Only available to the most serious collectors in the world, the 00 collaborative project began in 2013 as an experiment with Beaux Freres winemaker Mikey Etzel to produce amphora-fermented, whole berry snipped Willamette Valley Pinot Noir. The resulting wine was soft yet structured, lifted yet deep. With the 2014 vintage, the 00 Wines team was onto something. We were pushing the boundaries of Pinot Noir production, but could the same be done with Chardonnay?

In 2015, Chris Hermann and his family recruited Pierre Millemann of Millemann Consulting in Nuits-Saint-Georges to take the tiny 00 Wines experiment to a new level with the introduction of his "Black Chardonnay" winemaking methodology. Chris's father, Dr. Richard Hermann, gave him the blessing to grow 00 Wines into a family business to produce both old world style Pinot Noir and Chardonnay using traditional techniques. At 91 years old, Dr. Hermann became a winery owner. As European immigrants, the Hermann family's love of wine was imprinted on Chris from an early age. 00 Wines became an engaging family business for both father and son.

The release of the 2016 vintage marked the beginning of a clear vision for the future of 00 Wines with a primary focus on Chardonnay. The VGW, EGW, and Single Vineyard Bunker Hill Chardonnays recieved critical acclaim and soon became cult favorites of collectors and sommeliers around the world.

In 2017 00 Wines moved their local 2,000 case production to the Carlton Winemakers Studio in Carlton, Oregon. Building upon their vision from the 2016 vintage, the team bottled their VGW, EGW, and for the first time, seven single vineyard Chardonnays.
In addition to the Willamette Valley project, the family began working with Pierre to produce a barrel of Corton-Charlemagne in the Côte-d'Or. While visiting Pierre to work on this French project, they were introduced to a radically innovative vigneron in Le Mesnil-sur-Oger named Julien Launois. The Hermanns signed on to work with Julien to produce a vintage Grand Cru Le Mesnil-sur-Oger Blanc de Blancs Champagne each year.

00 Wines welcomed second generation Willamette Valley winemaker Wynne Peterson-Nedry to the team in 2018.
Although the 00 Wines project has evolved in just a few vintages, the mission remains the same each year: to produce world-class grand cru Pinot Noir and Chardonnay with traditional techniques by an all-star team, now across two continents.
